Theoretical High Energy Physics -- Seminars and Group meetings

There are four seminars associated with high energy theory and experiment. These are described in more detail below. We try to keep a unified list at HEFTI seminar and visitor schedule.

Regular joint theory/experimental seminars are at 4:10pm on Tuesday afternoons. They are listed in the overall department compendium linked to the physics department home page. At times, this list is not accurate or is not up to date. Look for notices in the department for seminar times or check with the faculty member in charge of the seminar for the quarter in question.

We also have a HEFTI seminar series. These seminars are currently scheduled at 11 am, Mondays. They are normally more theoretical in nature than the joint seminars. These seminars are managed by Bob McElrath and Guido Marandella. You should contact Bob McElrath in order to be placed on the email list for announcements of the seminars. Sometimes they are also properly announced on the seminars link located on the physics department home page. A better place to check may be the unified schedule: HEFTI seminar and visitor schedule.

We also have theory group meetings once a week. At these meetings we will often have an additional seminar speaker. On other occasions, the meetings will be primarily devoted to discussing a paper or two from the recent literature. Research projects being pursued by members of the HEFTI group are often discussed. Some meetings are used for joint brain storming of the theory and experimental groups or possibly joint discussions between the cosmology and high energy groups. For the fall quarter of 2005, our theory group meetings will be on Thursdays at 3:30 pm. A particular goal of the group meetings is to give students a chance to ask questions and learn about the many interesting research directions in the field of particle physics beyond their own work. Please contact Bob McElrath to receive email announcements of these meetings and the week's topic(s). These are also usually placed on the unified schedule: HEFTI seminar and visitor schedule.

On Fridays at 11 am, there is a regularly scheduled meeting of theory group students that loosely takes the form of a journal club. There, students also discuss their current projects and their progress. It is an informal meeting that all are invited to attend. It does not take place every week and is sometimes merged with the group meeting on Thursday. Please contact J. Gunion to be placed on the email list to receive announcements of when the next meeting will be held and the topics/papers to be covered. If it is scheduled it should appear on the unified schedule: HEFTI seminar and visitor schedule.

Some of us also attend seminars at LBL/Berkeley and SLAC/Stanford. For schedule and times of these seminars go to the Physics Links page.
